| Starting off from Donard Car Park in the town of Newcastle, follow the Glen River path up to the saddle between Slieve Donard and Commedagh. (You''ll pass an old building which is worth crossing the river for a look, apparently it''s an old ice house!)
When you reach the Mourne Wall, take left and begin the ascent of Donard. It''s a slow, uneventful climb but once you reach the top the views of the Co. Down coast are fantastic. You''ll also have the satisfaction of having just climbed the highest of the Mourne mountains. If you continue over the mountain you''ll descend on the other side into the Bog of Donard. From there head down to the quarry. You''ll be able to climb over the wall and join the path through Donard Wood, which will take you back to the car park below.
